Saints Secure Victory Over Trinity to Join Leeds Rhinos at Summit
St Helens' Kyle Feldt extended his season try count to 11 with a precise finish in the corner.
Tries: Davies, Feldt, Sailor
Goals: Hastings 3
Tries: Smoothy, Faatili
Goals: Sinfield 2
St Helens resisted a vigorous second-half resurgence from Wakefield Trinity to move level on points with Leeds Rhinos atop the Super League standings.
The win marks Saints' ninth victory in their last ten matches across all competitions. They overcame a confident Trinity side that arrived at the Brewdog Stadium having won six of their previous seven games.
Confronting the league's strongest defense, Saints surged to a 16-0 halftime lead with tries from Jake Davies, Kyle Feldt, and Tristan Sailor.
Wakefield struggled with poor decision-making and faced resilient Saints defense but regained composure in the second half, narrowing the deficit as Tyson Smoothy and Caius Faatili scored tries.
Saints had won the last five encounters between the teams, but Wakefield, improving since finishing sixth in their first Super League season last year, showed progress.
However, Trinity were clearly outmatched in the first half. Owen Dagnall's pace broke through deep into Trinity territory, allowing Jake Davies to power over despite two tacklers attempting to stop him.
A looping pass from Jonny Lomax set up Feldt for a sharp corner finish. Later, after Harry Robertson made a strong break through the defense, Jackson Hastings delivered a long pass to Sailor, who accelerated through a gap to seemingly put the game beyond doubt.
Paul Rowley's team displayed determination, exemplified by prop Alex Walmsley charging 50 meters to chase down Oliver Pratt as the wing threatened a breakaway, earning loud applause from the home crowd.
Wakefield Fight Back in Second Half
The game's momentum shifted eight minutes into the second half when Saints had a try disallowed. Wakefield immediately capitalized as Smoothy brushed aside Sailor to score and get on the scoreboard.
Saints showed momentary hesitation as Jackson Hastings opted for two points from a penalty deep in opposition territory. The decision seemed justified when Corey Hall was narrowly short of scoring for Wakefield.
Wakefield intensified their pressure, with Faatili breaking through a defensive gap to reduce the margin to a single converted try. Despite this, Saints maintained their composure and held on to secure the win.
