Blair Reunites with Rennie in All Blacks Coaching Team

Former Edinburgh head coach Mike Blair has joined Dave Rennie's backroom staff as the new attack coach for the New Zealand national rugby team. The two previously collaborated at Glasgow Warriors, where Blair served as Rennie's assistant during notable campaigns.

During their time together at Glasgow Warriors, the team reached the Pro14 final in 2019 and advanced to the Champions Cup quarter-finals in both 2017 and 2019. Since 2023, Blair has been working alongside Rennie at Kobelco Kobe Steelers in Japan, also as attack coach. Blair will now take on the same role for the All Blacks, following Rennie's appointment as head coach after Scott Robertson's departure.

"I'm proud and honoured to be joining the All Blacks coaching group.
The history and expectations around this team are well known and I'm looking forward to playing my part in continuing that tradition."

Coaching Team and Roles

In addition to Blair, Rennie has appointed Tana Umaga as defence coach. Jason Ryan will continue his role as forwards coach, and Neil Barnes remains senior assistant coach. Phil Healey, who has also worked with Rennie at Glasgow Warriors and in Japan, has been named head of performance. Tamati Ellison will take charge as Maori All Blacks head coach.

"This is a very experienced and highly skilled coaching team," Rennie said. "Each of these men has a track record of getting the best out of the players."

Blair and Healey will complete the ongoing Japan Rugby League One season before transitioning to their roles with the New Zealand national team.

"Mike will bring his innovative approach and attention to detail to our attack," Rennie added.
