Huddersfield Giants defeated York Knights to achieve back-to-back Super League victories for the first time since August 2025.
Following their impressive win against Wigan Warriors last weekend, Huddersfield scored three tries within the first 14 minutes. York managed to reduce the deficit to 18-8 by halftime, including a debut try from Will Roberts.
Jacob Gagai’s two tries in the second half extended Huddersfield’s lead, though York responded when Paul McShane delivered a creative assist to Nikau Williams for a touchdown.
Zac Woolford intercepted a pass and sprinted away to score his first try for Huddersfield, adding polish to the Giants’ second victory under interim head coach Liam Finn.
Warrington Thrash Leigh to Top Super League
The first Super League encounter between Huddersfield and York appeared one-sided as the Giants quickly established an 18-0 lead.
Initially, Woolford’s half-blocked pass went loose, prompting York’s Jesse Dee to rush out of the line. However, the ball eluded his grasp, allowing Adam Clune to capitalize and score.
Following this, Niall Evalds and Tanguy Zenon scored in quick succession during a dominant attacking phase where Huddersfield’s combinations posed significant threats to York’s defense.
York regrouped, with Roberts, a former St Helens academy player, scoring on his debut by chasing Ata Hingano’s grubber kick.
Roberts then assisted David Nofoaluma, who evaded two defenders to score. Despite this, Roberts missed both goal attempts amid strong wind conditions.
York’s hopes of gaining momentum were largely dashed by two tries from Gagai. He demonstrated great strength to score under pressure from Roberts for his first try, then showcased agility by cutting in from the left, evading tackles, and sprinting away for his second.
Between Gagai’s tries, York’s Kieran Buchanan had a try disallowed by video referee Aaron Moore due to obstruction. York did narrow the margin when McShane’s excellent aerial pass found Williams in the corner.
However, York’s difficulties were compounded when Woolford intercepted a pass and raced away to secure a 20-point victory for Huddersfield.
