Cardiff Secures Namibia Centre Le Roux Malan from Sharks
Cardiff have announced the signing of Namibia centre Le Roux Malan from the South African club Sharks.
Malan, born in Windhoek, represented Namibia in two matches during the 2023 Rugby World Cup held in France.
The 27-year-old player grew up in South Africa and has an international playing background, including a successful tenure in the United States with New England Free Jacks, where he contributed to winning three consecutive Major League Rugby (MLR) titles. Additionally, Malan had a period playing in New Zealand with Hawke's Bay.
In November 2025, Malan joined the Sharks on a season-long contract. During the current season, he has made eight appearances for the Sharks in the United Rugby Championship (URC), catching the attention of Cardiff's head coach, Corniel van Zyl.
"I have always wanted to play my rugby abroad, especially in the UK, so I am excited for the opportunity to learn a new style," said Malan.
"The project that Corniel laid out is something that excites me.
"It is something I feel I can add value to, but I also believe I can learn and grow as a player."
This season, Cardiff's regular centre options have included Ben Thomas, Rory Jennings, Harri Millard, and Steffan Emanuel. Meanwhile, Cornel Smit has returned to South Africa after a short-term stint with the club.
"Le Roux has improved his all-round game over the last few seasons," Van Zyl commented.
"It's an area where we needed some more strength in depth.
"He's a big, physical player who has played international rugby, while he's also versatile enough to play in both centre positions and wing if needed."
