Lewis to Lead Wales Against England Amid Injuries
Bethan Lewis will captain Wales in their upcoming Women's Six Nations match against England on Saturday at 14:15 BST. Fellow back rower Kate Williams has been ruled out due to injury.
Williams, who plays alongside Lewis at Gloucester-Hartpury, sustained a leg injury during the second half of Wales' 38-7 defeat to France last weekend and will be unavailable for the game against the world champions at Ashton Gate.
Alex Callender, who shared captaincy duties with Williams last year, remains sidelined as she continues to recover from an ankle injury.
Lewis, who previously captained Wales in their match against Canada at last summer's World Cup, expressed her pride in leading the team.
"It's always a massive honour to put on the jersey and to be able to lead the girls out against England."
Wales centre Carys Cox will miss the England game after being a late withdrawal from the France match due to a knock sustained during training. However, head coach Sean Lynn confirmed that wing Seren Singleton, who left the field with her arm in a sling during the France game, is fit and has been training.
Lynn is scheduled to announce the team lineup on Thursday morning.
"Carys isn't going to be in contention this week, however she will be when we go up against Ireland and Italy," said Lynn.
"Seren has been in training [on Wednesday] and has been training really well, so that's a positive for us."
Wales are aiming for their first championship victory in over two years. Facing England, who recently scored 12 tries against Scotland, presents a significant challenge before the tournament's two-week break.
"We have absolutely nothing to lose," Lewis stated.
"I think we've shown a lot of progress in terms of performance. Obviously it's not the complete performance that we're working towards, but what better team to go up against than England to really put our stall out?
"We've had a good look at ourselves, taking some learnings from last week, and hopefully we can kick on again this week."
