Matt Weston Discusses His Approach to Olympic Medals

Double Winter Olympic gold medallist Matt Weston has revealed that his fiancee and agent have admonished him for being too "blase" with his medals. Despite this, Weston enjoys sharing his achievements with others, hoping to inspire them.

The skeleton athlete secured both a solo and a team gold medal alongside skeleton partner Tabitha Stoecker at the 2026 Winter Olympics held in Italy.

"You probably should be more careful than I am, but I really enjoy showing people and letting people hold them, and hopefully being able to hold them and see them inspires people to take up sport,"

Weston reflected on his journey in the sport, which began nine years ago without a clear direction, and now finds himself with two Olympic gold medals.

"I took up this sport nine years ago not knowing where it would take me and now I'm sat here with two Olympic golds, so if holding these can do that to someone then I am more than happy to share them around."

Personal Background and Unique Medal Holder

Originally from Crowborough, East Sussex, Weston was born in Redhill, Surrey, and attended Bennett Memorial School in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. He carries his medals in a small pouch knitted for him by former Olympic diver Tom Daley.

"It's struggling a bit with two of them, it's a good problem to have, but it's a very cool and unique thing,"

"That is actually rarer than the medals are!"
