Ferguson Balliemore Cup Semi-Finals
Lovat advanced to the final of the Ferguson Balliemore Cup, the intermediate shinty championship, by defeating local rivals Beauly 2-0 at Balgate. Inveraray reached the other semi-final after a 5-3 win against Bute at the Winterton.
HIS Sutherland Cup Quarter-Finals
The quarter-finals of the HIS Sutherland Cup, the reserve team championship, featured a dominant 10-0 victory for holders Fort William over visitors Bute.
Match Details
Newtonmore's Struan Ross opened the scoring in the first minute, followed shortly by Iain Robinson's goal to make it 2-0. There was a considerable interval before Newtonmore added further goals: Ross scored again after 68 minutes and completed a hat-trick with a penalty. Robinson also scored a second goal, with additional goals from Declan Brannan and Euan Dingwall.
Kingussie's Ruaridh Anderson scored first, followed by Roddy Young. Dylan Borthwick added a third for Kingussie before Ali Nixon scored a consolation goal for Kinlochshiel in the final minute.
Oban Camanachd's Lewis Cameron and Daniel MacVicar each scored twice, giving Oban a 4-0 lead after 23 minutes. Ali Taylor scored for Caberfeidh early in the second half, but Connor Howe secured the win for Oban.
In the Balliemore Cup at Kiltarlity, the match remained goalless until the final quarter-hour when Graeme MacMillan scored for Lovat, followed five minutes later by Sergio Thomson, confirming their place in the final.
In Inveraray, after nearly an hour without goals, Coll MacKay scored a rapid hat-trick, interrupted by a goal from Ross Montgomery, putting Inveraray 4-0 ahead within ten minutes. Bute responded strongly, with Scott Harvey scoring twice, including a penalty, and Robert Lowrie adding another goal to narrow the gap to 4-3. The match was decided late by Montgomery's second goal.
Pitch Inspection and Scheduling
A morning pitch inspection at An Aird determined that only one of the two scheduled games could proceed. With Bute already en route, Fort William's reserve team's Sutherland Cup match went ahead, while their Premiership game against Skye was postponed.
