Scheffler Confirms Scottish Open Participation

World number one Scottie Scheffler has confirmed he will participate in the Scottish Open next month as preparation for defending his Open Championship title.

The American golfer, who finished tied for eighth place at the Scottish Open last year, will compete at the Renaissance Club from 9-12 July. He will be joined by notable players including double-Masters winner and world number two Rory McIlroy, leading Scot and 2024 Scottish Open champion Robert MacIntyre, and the defending champion Chris Gotterup.

This event marks Scheffler's fifth appearance at the East Lothian course. He considers the tournament ideal preparation for his upcoming defense of the Claret Jug at Royal Birkdale the following week.

"I always enjoy coming to the Genesis Scottish Open and taking on the challenge of links-style golf as part of an exciting couple of weeks in the UK," Scheffler said.

"The tournament always has a strong field and the Scottish fans help to make it a fun week."

Last year, compatriot Chris Gotterup won the Scottish Open, finishing two strokes ahead of Rory McIlroy and England's Marco Penge. Scheffler concluded the tournament four strokes behind Gotterup.
