Hamilton's Victory at South African Open
Esme Hamilton secured her first European Tour title at the South African Open, overcoming a challenge from fellow English golfer Cara Gainer. Hamilton began the final day as joint leader alongside Slovenia's Pia Babnik and maintained her lead to finish two strokes ahead of Gainer.
The 26-year-old faced difficulties on the front nine, recording a bogey on the third hole and a double bogey on the ninth. However, she stabilized her performance on the back nine, completing the round with a two-under-par 71.
This victory marks Hamilton's first European Tour win after 22 attempts. Prior to this event in Cape Town, her best results included only two top-10 finishes.
Cara Gainer, aged 30, entered the final round in third place, one shot behind the clubhouse leaders. Despite shooting a one-under-par 72, she finished just short of overtaking Hamilton.
