Dustin Johnson Withdraws from Open Championship

Two-time major champion Dustin Johnson will not participate in the upcoming Open Championship, marking his first absence since his debut in 2009. The 42-year-old American withdrew from the final qualifying stage, which was held at Dundonald Links, one of four venues offering five qualifying spots each for the championship at Royal Birkdale scheduled next month.

Johnson, who turned professional in 2007, has never won the Open Championship, with his best finish being a tie for second place in 2011. Despite his success in other majors, including victories at the 2016 US Open and the 2020 Masters, Johnson has recorded only one top-20 finish in his last 15 major tournaments.

As he did not secure automatic qualification, Johnson entered the final qualifying round but has since been removed from the entry list. No official reason has been provided for his withdrawal.

This development ends Johnson's streak of 38 consecutive major appearances, a run that began after missing the 2017 Masters. Notably, Johnson, who competes on the LIV Golf tour, made the cut in all three major events he participated in earlier this year.

The Open Championship is set to commence on 16 July.
