Glasgow Club Tollcross Pool Reopens to Public
One of the primary venues for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow will reopen to the public starting Thursday.
The main pool at Glasgow Club Tollcross has been partially closed since last year to facilitate redevelopment work in preparation for its use during the Games in July and August.
Redevelopment and Upgrades
The refurbishment included re-tiling the main pool, upgrading the pool filtration system, and enhancing the seating, lighting, and video board. These improvements aim to restore the pool to what the Games organisers describe as "international standard."
The pool was a significant venue during the previous Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow in 2014, where local swimmers Ross Murdoch and Hannah Miley secured gold medals.
Funding and Support
The redevelopment was funded through £2.9 million from Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Council, supplemented by an additional £850,000 from the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games venue readiness fund.
Comments from Duncan Scott OBE
Duncan Scott OBE, a multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games medallist, attended the pool reopening event.
"High quality local swimming facilities like this are vital – not just for elite athletes, but for grassroots participation, community health and inspiring the next generation.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Tollcross back in full use and to experiencing the incredible atmosphere here this summer. This is something fans won't want to miss, and I can't wait to hear the home crowd cheering us on here in Glasgow."
Historical Significance and Future Closures
The pool originally opened in 1997 and has hosted numerous major competitions since then.
Tollcross will close again to the public in mid-July ahead of the Commonwealth Games, with exact closure dates yet to be announced.
Other venues for Glasgow 2026, including Scotstoun, Glasgow International Arena, and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, are also expected to close around the same time.
