Miami GP Qualifying Overview
Kimi Antonelli secured pole position for the Miami Grand Prix with an impressive lap, narrowly edging out a revitalized Red Bull driver who claimed second place.
Following the qualifying session, the FIA, Formula One, and the Miami Grand Prix promoter jointly announced that Sunday’s race start time would be moved forward from 4pm to 1pm local time (6pm BST) due to forecasts of heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Qualifying Results and Team Performances
On the track, Ferrari drivers secured third and sixth positions with and Lewis Hamilton, respectively. McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri finished fourth and seventh, while Antonelli’s Mercedes teammate George Russell qualified fifth, trailing the Italian by four-tenths of a second.
Antonelli, who leads the world championship by seven points over Russell, achieved his third consecutive pole position. This performance reaffirmed Mercedes’ competitive pace at the front of the field, which had appeared to be under significant challenge during the Miami weekend, especially after Norris and Piastri dominated earlier on Saturday at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Additional Context
The adjustments to the race schedule reflect concerns over the weather conditions forecasted for Sunday afternoon, aiming to ensure the event proceeds safely and with minimal disruption.
