Wrexham Triumph Over Cardiff City to Win Adran Premier Title
Wrexham defeated Cardiff City 4-1 to claim the Adran Premier title for the first time in their history. The match saw an early lead for Cardiff as Mikayla Cook scored from a 20-yard free-kick in the sixth minute, beating Wrexham goalkeeper Liz Craven. However, Wrexham responded strongly before halftime when Katie Barker capitalised on some loose play from Cardiff to equalise.
Shortly after the break, Barker continued her impact by converting a close-range finish following a cross from Faye Knox, giving Wrexham the lead. Knox then extended the advantage in the 80th minute with a powerful strike, providing the home side with much-needed breathing room. Barker completed her hat-trick three minutes later by scoring a penalty, sealing a comprehensive victory for Jenny Sugarman’s team at Stok Cae Ras.
Cardiff City, managed by Iain Darbyshire, suffered a late setback when Shannon Evans was sent off. This defeat leaves the Bluebirds five points behind Wrexham with only one league game remaining this season. Cardiff will now focus on the Bute Energy Welsh Cup final against Swansea City on 19 April, where Darbyshire aims to conclude his tenure with a trophy.
