George Dobson Commits to Wrexham Until 2028
Midfielder George Dobson has signed a contract extension with Wrexham, securing his stay at the Stok Cae Ras until 2028.
Wrexham Positioned for Promotion Battle
Dobson expressed confidence in Wrexham's standing as they approach the closing stages of the Championship promotion race. The club currently sits seventh in the Championship, level on points with sixth-place Southampton. Among their final seven fixtures, Wrexham will face three teams currently in the top six.
The Red Dragons will also challenge the league's top two teams, Coventry City and Middlesbrough, as they strive for a fourth consecutive promotion.
"These are the games that you want to play and we're obviously competing to get into the best league in the world," Dobson said.
"We've put ourselves in a really good position where we know that we can just go full throttle basically for seven games and just give it as good a go as we've got.
"There's a really good feel in the dressing room and a real excitement towards the last month of the season because there's still so much to play for."
Wrexham News and Manager Comments
Manager Phil Parkinson has noted that Wrexham's players are eager to resume the EFL season following the international break.
Despite being firmly in the Championship play-off contention, Dobson mentioned that the squad has not focused heavily on the prospect of playing in the Premier League next season.
"We don't really talk about the Premier League to be fair," Dobson added.
"Obviously people talk in terms of we watch Premier League football and we'll watch the other games in our league that are on.
"We're just trying to give ourselves the best possible opportunity to have the chance to get in there and then that's all we can do and it starts Friday."
Upcoming Fixtures
Wrexham will face West Bromwich Albion on Friday, 3 April at 15:00 BST, followed by a home match against FA Cup quarter-finalists Southampton next Tuesday at the Stok Cae Ras.
Dobson's Journey to Wrexham
Dobson joined Wrexham during the 2024 summer transfer window after departing Charlton Athletic, where he served as captain. Initially expected to transfer to Hungarian club Fehervar, he withdrew due to personal reasons and instead reunited with his former Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson in North Wales.
This season marks Dobson's first in the Championship, where he has made 33 league appearances and scored one goal.
"I've played in League One for a really long time, my whole career," Dobson said.
"So at 28 to get the opportunity to play in the Championship was one I was really looking forward to.
"Obviously I knew it was going to be tough being at a club that pushes so quickly.
"But I'm delighted to have played as much as I have and obviously thankful to the gaffer for that.
"And I think my performances have been consistent and looking to improve all the time really."
