Wales' aspirations of earning a play-off spot for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup ended after a 3-0 loss to Denmark in the UEFA Men's Under-19 Championship.

Chris Gunter's squad exited the tournament after losing all three Group A matches without scoring a goal.

Denmark advanced to a play-off against the third-placed team from Group B, scheduled to take place at Bangor's Nantporth Stadium on Wednesday.

The victor of that play-off will secure a position in the inter-confederation play-offs for the 2027 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Both Wales and Denmark entered the final Group A fixture at Wrexham's Racecourse Ground without any points, having already been defeated by Spain and Germany.

These earlier results confirmed Spain and Germany as the top two teams in the group, guaranteeing them semi-final spots and automatic qualification for the 2027 Under-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

After a tightly contested first 20 minutes, Denmark took the lead when captain Ollti Hyseni scored a remarkable goal, curling a shot from 20 yards into the net, leaving Wales goalkeeper Logan Stretch unable to save it.

Denmark maintained pressure, with Alfred Gethler hitting the crossbar from long range before halftime.

Early in the second half, Denmark doubled their lead when Hjallte Larke's free-kick found the back of the net just four minutes after the restart.

Hyseni secured his second goal of the match with an impressive individual effort, confirming a comfortable victory for Denmark.

Wales ended the match with 10 players after Cardiff City's Jac Thomas received a second yellow card in the final minute for a foul on Julius Lucena.
