Massive Crowd Greets Aston Villa’s Return
A sea of claret and blue flooded Birmingham as thousands of Aston Villa fans welcomed home the team as heroes in celebration of their Europa League cup triumph.
More than 20,000 supporters were estimated to have gathered in Centenary Square on Thursday to witness the players lift the trophy – the club's first in 30 years – less than 24 hours after a 3-0 victory against Freiburg in Istanbul.

Hundreds more lined the streets, with some arriving hours in advance to secure the best vantage points for the team's bus parade through the city.

Emotional Celebrations in City Centre
The occasion was highly emotional for fans assembled in the city centre, where claret and blue smoke from flares filled the air and flags waved proudly.
Cheers erupted at the parade’s conclusion when the trophy was raised high, followed by a shower of confetti over the supporters.

Manager and Players Address Fans
Speaking to the crowd shortly after the celebrations, manager Unai Emery expressed the team’s joy in sharing the achievement with their supporters.

"And of course we are so, so proud of you," Emery said. "This moment is really fantastic, our heart is your heart, your heart is our heart."
Defender Tyrone Mings also addressed the crowd from the top deck of the bus, revealing the team had celebrated extensively after the match.

"We celebrated very hard," Mings stated. "I'm sure you guys have too… I just want to say thank you so much. What a fan base, what a set of players. We are so grateful for all of you showing up today."
Royal Enthusiasm for Villa’s Victory
Even royalty was caught up in the excitement of Villa's win. Prince William, who was seen celebrating during the match in Turkey, was asked by a reporter during a visit to Cornwall on Thursday whether he had enjoyed the football. He responded with laughter, reflecting the jubilant mood.
Details of the Parade Route and Fan Stories
The parade commenced in the city's Jewellery Quarter shortly before 17:00 BST, proceeding along Broad Street to Centenary Square.
Along the route, personal stories from fans emerged. A group of employees from Krypton Jewellers gathered on Hall Street to await the bus. They told the BBC their employer had granted them the afternoon off to celebrate and watch the parade, with one describing the atmosphere as "fantastic."
Another fan, Andy, shared his long-standing support for the club, dating back to around 1980. He had attended the city centre celebrations for the club’s previous European trophy, the European Cup, in 1982.
"I came to that [parade] and I'm here now so I can say I've been to two of them," Andy said.
Asked about the experience back then, he recalled: "Brilliant, absolutely amazing. I was 17 years old, I think, and it was fantastic."
Parade Scheduling and Fan Reactions
Aston Villa confirmed the parade would take place on Thursday shortly after their victory, explaining that holding it over the weekend or on Bank Holiday Monday was not feasible.
This scheduling meant some fans still in Turkey or traveling home missed the Birmingham celebrations. Anna from Sutton Coldfield expressed disappointment.
"Lots of other travelling fans as well won't be back in time," she said earlier, wishing the timing had been arranged to allow more people to "witness the glory."
"So it's a bit disheartening and annoying really."
Local Fans Celebrate in Birmingham
For those present in Birmingham who could not attend the match abroad, the atmosphere was joyful. A family comprising Marie, Ethan, George, and Silvie were among the first to welcome the team back, having secured a spot on Hall Street.
The occasion held special significance for Silvie, a former Villa steward who was photographed holding the European Cup in 1982.
