Bompastor Extends Chelsea Contract

Chelsea head coach Sonia Bompastor has signed a contract extension with the club that will keep her at Stamford Bridge until 2030.

The 45-year-old French coach joined Chelsea from Lyon in May 2024 following the departure of Emma Hayes. In her inaugural season, Bompastor led the Blues to an unbeaten domestic treble, securing the Women's Super League, FA Cup, and League Cup titles.

Current WSL Standings and Challenges

Despite Chelsea's dominance in the Women's Super League over the past six seasons, they currently sit third in the table, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City. This position follows a recent downturn in form, including consecutive defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City.

On Sunday, Chelsea are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur, who are fifth in the WSL standings and just one point behind Chelsea.

Coach's Statement and Team Outlook

In a statement regarding her contract extension, Bompastor expressed gratitude towards the club for their continued support and confidence in her leadership.

"It's a privilege to lead this team and I could not be prouder to represent Chelsea."

She attributed the team's recent drop in league performance primarily to injuries but emphasized the squad's resilience and determination.

"Our success as a team is built on grit, resilience and intensity and we do not settle for anything less than winning,"
"We have so much left to fight for, we are competing on four fronts, and we will give everything. My focus is firmly on bringing more success to this amazing club."

Competition Status

Chelsea remain active in multiple competitions this season. They have progressed to the Champions League quarter-finals and are currently in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Additionally, they will face Manchester United in the League Cup final next month.
