From Rugby Roots to Football Ambitions
Garan Evans, known for his 15-year career with Llanelli RFC and the Scarlets, is the father of Caio Ifans, who has spent over a decade developing within Swansea City's academy system.
While his father made his mark as a full-back for the Wales rugby team, Caio Ifans has chosen to pursue a career in football.
Ifans, aged 18, has recently signed his first professional contract with Swansea City. His father, Garan Evans, is a former Scarlets and Wales player who earned four caps for Wales and participated in the 2003 Rugby World Cup.
Although Ifans played rugby during his early years, he has been affiliated with Swansea City since the age of seven.
The defender aims to break into the Championship club's first team and has moved closer to this goal by securing a contract that extends until the summer of 2027.
"It means a lot to me and to my family that I've made it this far from being in the academy at such a young age," Ifans said on the Swansea website.
"I also played rugby growing up so I always loved sport, and I've come from a sporting family. But I started taking football more seriously when I was getting closer to scholarship age.
"The dream has always been to play for the first team and this is a step in the right direction."
