Rhian Wilkinson Unveils Wales Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Rhian Wilkinson has announced her squad for Wales' opening qualifying matches as part of their campaign to reach the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil.

The campaign will commence with a home match against the Czech Republic on 3 March, followed by a fixture against Montenegro in Llanelli on 7 March.

Three uncapped players have been named in the squad: goalkeeper Poppy Soper from Rugby Borough, and Olivia Francis and Phoebie Poole from Plymouth Argyle.

The squad also features a wealth of experienced players, including three who have earned over 100 caps: Hayley Ladd, Sophie Ingle, and captain Angharad James.

However, Laura Hughes, who earned her first cap against Switzerland in December, is absent due to injury.

Wales in Group B1

Wales are drawn in Group B1, the second tier, alongside the Czech Republic, Albania, and Montenegro.

To secure a place in the World Cup, Wilkinson's squad will need to progress through the play-off matches, as no teams from tier B qualify automatically.

Wales' performance in the group will also influence the tier in which they compete in the UEFA Nations League.

Live audio commentary of both matches will be available on Cymru Fyw.
