Real Madrid Fines Midfielders After Dressing Room Incident
Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have featured 32 and 30 times respectively in La Liga this season.
Real Madrid have imposed a combined fine of 1 million euros on midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde following a dressing room altercation between the two players.
Valverde, aged 27, was hospitalized with a head injury after the incident with 26-year-old French international Tchouameni but denied that the players "came to blows."
The Uruguayan midfielder explained that the injury, which will sideline him for the upcoming El Clasico against Barcelona on Sunday, occurred when he "accidentally hit a table."
Both players attended an internal disciplinary meeting on Friday and accepted fines of £432,000 (500,000 euros) each.
"During the appearance, the players expressed their deep regret for what happened and apologised to each other," said Real Madrid in a statement.
"They have also apologised to the club, their team-mates, the coaching staff and the fans, and both have made themselves available to Real Madrid to accept whatever sanction the club deems appropriate."
