Paul Mullin Leaves Wrexham by Mutual Consent
Striker Paul Mullin has departed Wrexham by mutual consent, the Championship club confirmed. Mullin, who joined the club on a free transfer from Cambridge United in 2021, became a cult figure among Wrexham supporters and a favourite of the club's Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.
The 31-year-old scored 110 goals in 172 appearances across all competitions during his five-year tenure with the North Wales club.
Wrexham announced a "mutual termination" of Mullin's contract at the Racecourse Ground, which was originally set to run until 2027.
"I would like to wish Paul all the best," said Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson. "This settlement enables him to take his time and find the right club for him, going forward. It can't be underestimated the role Mulls (Mullin) has played in the story of Wrexham Football club over the last five years, with so many memorable goals and moments. He'll be a player always remembered and revered by our supporters."

Mullin was a key figure in the squad that won the National League title in 2023, securing Wrexham's return to the English Football League after a 15-year absence. He missed the early stages of the 2023-24 League Two season due to a punctured lung sustained in a pre-season friendly against Manchester United. Despite this setback, he signed a contract extension in January 2024 and contributed to the team’s second consecutive promotion.
He began the 2024-25 season sidelined after undergoing surgery for a persistent back injury. Although he regained fitness, Mullin spent much of the campaign out of the starting lineup as Wrexham achieved a third successive promotion, earning a place in the Championship.
In June 2025, Mullin joined League One side Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan, scoring five goals in 26 appearances before the loan was cut short in January. He then moved on loan to Bradford City, where he made nine appearances without scoring. Mullin returned to Wrexham at the end of the season but is now a free agent.
Wrexham expressed their gratitude for Mullin's significant contributions during his time at the club.
"Our heartfelt thanks go to Paul for the enormous contribution he has made during his time at Wrexham," the club said in a statement. "All at Wrexham AFC would like to place on record our thanks for Paul's efforts and contributions to the football club, during which he has cemented his place in the club's history books. We would like to wish Paul and his family all the very best for the future."
Analysis: A Player Whose Legacy Will Endure
Mark Poyser, a commentator for BBC Radio Wales, reflected on Mullin's impact at Wrexham during the Hollywood ownership era.
"In the Hollywood era at Wrexham, few players captured the fans' and owners' imagination quite like Paul Mullin," Poyser said. "He scored 110 goals in 172 games, including 38 in the National League in the 2022-23 season to help the club back into the Football League after 15 years in the wilderness."
He noted Mullin's involvement beyond the pitch, including speaking roles in advertisements and cameo appearances in films alongside co-owner Ryan Reynolds, as well as his iconic status symbolized by a large mural in Wrexham city centre.
"Without his goals, Wrexham would not have got back into the EFL when they did, and if they had not got back into the EFL when they did, the incredible rise the club have been on might not have been so rapid," Poyser added.
"There may well be bigger and more incredible achievements to come in the next few years, but there is no doubting Mullin's cult hero status at Wrexham. He was the poster boy of those early years under the Hollywood owners and his departure - having not played for the club since February 2025 - is a sad end for a player whose legacy will remain intact for years to come."
