Bazoumana Toure's Transfer to Newcastle United

Bazoumana Toure was part of the Ivory Coast squad at the World Cup.

Bazoumana Toure expressed great happiness after finalizing his £43 million transfer to Newcastle United from Hoffenheim.

The Ivory Coast forward has maintained a constant smile, as noted by his former Hammarby teammate Nahir Besara.

"It doesn't matter if it is a good day or a bad day," he said. "He always goes into the locker room with a smile, ready to work."

This transfer represents the latest milestone in the swift progression of the 20-year-old, who aspired to play in the Premier League.

Toure joined Swedish club Hammarby in 2024 and moved to Hoffenheim a year later.

After only 18 months in the Bundesliga, he traveled by private jet to Tyneside.

Toure has remained grateful to those who supported him during his career.

"The day before he left Hammarby, he sent me money as a gift," Besara said. "Of course I sent it back, but it was an amazing gesture.

"He wanted to show me that he was thankful for what I did for him, but I was more thankful to him because he came to our club and helped us.

"He is a person I will never forget."

A Long-Term Replacement for Gordon

Newcastle United hopes Toure will make a lasting impact both on and off the pitch.

The club had been searching for a left winger following Anthony Gordon's £69.3 million transfer to Barcelona in June.

After missing out on Victor Munoz, who chose to join Liverpool from Osasuna, Newcastle urgently needed a breakthrough in their recruitment.

This urgency increased after agreeing to sell midfielder Sandro Tonali to Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth up to £100 million.

Tonali's forthcoming departure was key to allowing Newcastle to create financial headroom under the game's regulations to reinvest in several squad areas.

Toure fits the profile of player targeted this summer: young, ambitious, and eager to play for Newcastle, which is significant given the club's recent transfer setbacks.

The Ivory Coast international also has the potential to develop further under the right guidance.

Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg, who facilitated Toure's move to Europe, expressed his admiration.

"I fell in love with Toure when I first watched him play for ASEC Mimosas in his homeland.

"It's his personality," he said. "He's always smiling, always positive."

'I Know He Will Be Really Successful'

Toure's positive attitude is evident in his playing style.

The fast winger actively sought to influence games at Hoffenheim, who narrowly missed Champions League qualification last season.

Among Bundesliga forwards in the 2025-26 season, Toure ranked first for successful crosses (39), joint-second for assists (nine), joint-third for dribbles completed (48), and fourth for chances created (45) and big chances created (11).

Despite these attacking qualities, he is not reckless.

"You see his qualities with the ball, his speed and his hard work," Besara said. "But the thing that amazed me was he could take directions from the coaches and the players, and do it directly on the pitch.

"I remember previously he had scored some goals for Hammarby, but he had not scored a header at the time.

"The day before a game, our coach [Kim Hellberg] said, 'Bazou, I want you to go to the first post and head the ball'. He went on to score two headers in that game.

"He's really adaptable at taking tactical advice."

Toure's quick comprehension has also contributed to his defensive improvements.

In his final league season at Hoffenheim, he won 152 duels and recovered possession 127 times.

The Premier League presents a further challenge.

Toure remains raw and must improve aspects of his game, including finishing.

He will also require time to adapt to the league's physicality, intensity, and Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe's tactical system.

However, Toure can draw on his recent experience of adapting to new environments.

"I know he will be really successful," Besara said. "Mark my words."
