Galbraith's Swansea Future
Midfielder Ethan Galbraith has scored four goals in 44 appearances for Swansea City this season.
Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos has expressed optimism regarding Ethan Galbraith agreeing to a new contract with the Championship club.
The club is currently in discussions with the Northern Ireland midfielder about a fresh deal following his impressive first season in Wales.
Recent reports suggested that Galbraith, 24, had declined an initial offer from Swansea; however, Matos confirmed that negotiations are ongoing.
"I think they are speaking," Matos said. "It's a normal situation – you make an offer, they make an offer, then somehow in the middle there will be something.
He is under contract with the club, the club of course is always trying to have a stronger link with the players who are having a good season. That's what the club is trying [in this case]."
Galbraith has been sidelined with a calf injury since the March international break but has been one of Swansea's standout performers since his £1.5m transfer from Leyton Orient last summer.
The former Manchester United youth player has excelled in his preferred central midfield role and has also performed competently as a right-back in several matches.
While Galbraith's performances are likely to have attracted interest from other clubs, Matos remains hopeful that the player, who is currently under contract until 2028 with an option for an additional year, will stay with Swansea long-term.
"I think we need to be optimistic with everything," Matos added.
"I think Gally (Galbraith) has a lot of things that we all love as a club, and I do as a manager - I like him a lot.
So why not tie up the players you like for the future of the club? He is one of those. That's what we are trying and negotiations are part of that. You speak with the agent, the agent speaks with the club and then let's see."
