Ekitike Injury Raises Concerns for Liverpool
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed serious concern over the condition of striker Hugo Ekitike following an injury sustained during Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Paris St-Germain.
Ekitike, who has scored 11 Premier League goals this season for Liverpool, was forced off the field on a stretcher approximately 30 minutes into the match. The Reds suffered a 2-0 defeat on the night, resulting in a 4-0 aggregate loss.
The French forward appeared to be in significant discomfort, holding his ankle before being removed from play.
"Hugo looks really bad but it is difficult to say how bad," Slot stated after the game. "Let's see. It doesn't look good, that is clear. I didn't see him at half-time and after the game he was already home. I have not spoken to him yet."
Ekitike's Impact and Future Prospects
Ekitike is in his first season with Liverpool, having transferred from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. He has contributed 17 goals across 45 appearances in all competitions this season.
A significant injury layoff would jeopardize Ekitike's chances of being selected for the French national team at the upcoming World Cup in North America this summer.
Teammate Reacts to Injury
Fellow Liverpool and France international Ibrahima Konate commented on the situation, acknowledging the difficulty of the moment for Ekitike.
"I think it is bad," Konate told Amazon Prime. "I don't know, I have heard many things, I have no word to talk about that because with the World Cup coming it is very, very hard for him and I send him my prayers."
