Joel Bagan Signs New Four-Year Deal with Cardiff City
Joel Bagan has committed his future to Cardiff City by signing a new four-year contract with the League One promotion winners. The academy graduate played a significant role in Brian Barry-Murphy's squad as they secured immediate promotion back to the Championship in the 2025-26 season.
The 24-year-old left-back was among three senior players whose contracts were due to expire this summer. However, Bagan has now extended his stay at Cardiff until 2030.
"I'm delighted to be extending my stay at this club. I've been here since I was 16 and it feels like home," said Bagan.
"Last season was so special and I'm excited for what the future will bring now. I think it is a great time to be a Cardiff City player."
Bagan's contract renewal follows defender Perry Ng's agreement to new terms, while midfielder Ryan Wintle has confirmed his departure from the Welsh club. Additionally, Cardiff have secured goalkeeper Nathan Trott on a permanent basis after his impressive loan spell during the promotion-winning campaign.
Summer Recruitment and Team Prospects
Brian Barry-Murphy's squad is expected to pursue a central midfielder as part of their summer transfer plans. Bagan's performances earned him a place in the League One team of the season for 2025-26, having made 52 appearances throughout the campaign.
Since making his debut in 2020, the former Southampton youth player has accumulated 130 appearances for Cardiff City. Internationally, Bagan represents the Republic of Ireland at the Under-21 level and was recently called up to the senior squad earlier this month but had to withdraw due to injury.
