Jess Fishlock Awaits Injury Assessment After Stretcher Exit

Jess Fishlock, who holds the Wales record with 48 goals in 166 international appearances, is currently awaiting medical evaluation following an injury that required her to be carried off on a stretcher during a Seattle Reign match.

A spokesperson for Seattle Reign stated:

"Initial X-rays on Jess' ankle were negative, and she is currently undergoing further evaluation and testing. We will share additional updates as more information becomes available."

Photographs of the 39-year-old former Wales midfielder show her in visible pain, signaling for assistance before leaving the field during Reign's 3-0 home defeat to Utah Royals in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) on Sunday.

Following the game, Reign head coach Laura Harvey commented on Fishlock's condition and its impact on the team.

"I don't think it looked great."
"When the injury happened, we were really on the front foot and we were really pushing. It sucked the life out of us a little bit... she is a big part of the group obviously for who she is and what she's done and the leadership role that she plays within our group."

Seattle Reign recently announced that Fishlock will retire at the conclusion of their current campaign, which is scheduled to end in November.

Fishlock retired from international football with Wales in October 2025. Since then, she has taken on a technical role within the Wales national team’s coaching staff under manager Rhian Wilkinson, while continuing her playing career with Seattle Reign.
