Wouter Vrancken Poised to Become Hearts Head Coach
Hearts are close to appointing Wouter Vrancken, the Belgian football manager of the year, as their new head coach, succeeding Derek McInnes.
The 47-year-old recently left his hometown club Sint-Truiden after guiding them to a third-place finish in the Belgian Pro League, their best league position in 60 years, during his first full season in charge.
Derek McInnes departed Hearts last week to join Rangers after leading the club to second place in the previous season, narrowly missing out on their first league title since 1960 on the final day to Celtic.
Hearts are now close to confirming Vrancken as McInnes's replacement. This appointment would mark Vrancken's first managerial role outside Belgium, following successful tenures at Sint-Truiden and Genk, where he nearly secured the Belgian title in 2023.
Vrancken began his coaching career in Belgium's lower leagues and returned to the top division as an assistant coach at Kortrijk, a club he previously played for.
In 2018, he took over as manager of Mechelen, leading them to promotion and a Belgian Cup victory in the same season, followed by three consecutive top-eight finishes in the top flight.
