Attack on Berekum Chelsea Team Bus
Dominic Frimpong, a Ghanaian footballer, has died after suspected armed robbers opened fire on the bus transporting his team, Berekum Chelsea, as they returned from a match.
The club reported that "masked men wielding guns and assault rifles" ambushed the bus and "blocked the road" on Sunday during the team's journey home.

Incident Details and Police Response
According to police, Frimpong sustained gunshot wounds and died while receiving medical treatment. Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspects involved in the attack.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed its "profound shock and deep sorrow," describing the 20-year-old player as a "promising young talent whose dedication and passion for the game embodied the spirit of our league."
The team was returning from a Ghana Premier League match against Samartex in Samreboi, located approximately 270km (170 miles) from Berekum, which they lost 1-0.
"[The men] started shooting at our bus as the driver tried to reverse," Berekum Chelsea stated on Monday. "The players and staff fled into nearby bushes to take cover."
Ghanaian authorities reported that the bus was carrying 30 players and officials when it was attacked by six armed men.
The police regional command has "deployed additional personnel and crime scene experts to the area," adding that "perpetrators will be arrested within the shortest possible time."
Reactions from Football Authorities
The GFA confirmed it is in contact with the relevant authorities and the club, urging that "all necessary measures" be taken to ensure justice is served.
In a separate statement, the Ghana Premier League expressed its "unwavering backing" for Berekum Chelsea during this "difficult moment" and called on security agencies to take "urgent steps to safeguard all participating clubs" as they travel for matches nationwide.
Concerns Over Road Safety
Sunday's attack highlights ongoing concerns about safety on major roads in Ghana.
In recent years, other clubs such as FC Savannah, Wa All Stars, Legon Cities, and AshantiGold have reportedly experienced similar attacks.
Ghanaian sports journalist Muftawu Abdulai described the national mood as one of "shock and disappointment," noting that fans are increasingly questioning whether it is "safe to travel and play league matches."
"If the lives of the people or the key architect of the game cannot be protected then it is not worth playing the game," Abdulai told Africa.
Security Measures and Player Profile
The GFA announced it will review and strengthen security arrangements for clubs traveling within Ghana to "prevent such tragic occurrences in the future."
Dominic Frimpong had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January. The forward was scheduled to remain with the team until the end of the Premier League season and had scored two goals in 13 appearances.
