Gareth Bale's Sports Investment Ambitions
Gareth Bale, who earned 111 caps for Wales and scored 41 goals, has reaffirmed his ambition to purchase a football club following the launch of a new sports investment fund. He has not ruled out making another attempt to acquire Cardiff City.
Last summer, Bale experienced frustration when Vincent Tan, the owner of Cardiff City, declined an offer from the investment group Bale was associated with to take control of his hometown club.
Having retired from professional football in January 2023, Bale has now partnered with American private equity firm Juggernaut Capital to establish a sports fund. This fund aims to invest in teams and leagues across both men's and women's sports.
"It's about being patient, finding the right club, and the right path for us to take," Bale told US media organisation Front Office Sports.
"That doesn't mean Cardiff is off the table. But I think now we have a bit of time, and will look around."
Cardiff City and Recent Developments
In response to takeover rumors last August, Cardiff chairman Mehmet Dalman stated that Vincent Tan was not interested in selling the club.
Since Bale's initial expression of interest in Cardiff a year ago, the Bluebirds have achieved promotion back to the Championship under the management of head coach Brian Barry-Murphy.
Bale's Retirement and Current Activities
Bale retired two months after representing Wales at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Since retiring, the Cardiff-born footballer has frequently appeared as a television pundit and has continued to engage in his passion for golf.
