Everton Sign Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough

Everton have secured the signing of midfielder Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough for a transfer fee starting at £16 million.

The 24-year-old player had one year remaining on his contract with Middlesbrough, the club he joined at the Under-10 level. Hackney departs after Middlesbrough narrowly missed promotion to the Premier League last season.

Hackney, who was named the 2025-26 Championship Player of the Season, played a key role in helping Middlesbrough reach the play-off final in May. The team was defeated 1-0 by Hull City in that decisive match.

"I'm delighted to be here,"
said Hackney, who has committed to Everton on a five-year contract.

"As soon as I spoke to the manager [David Moyes], as soon as I knew Everton were interested, to be honest, it was always going to be Everton.
It's such a big club, with the new stadium and the direction it's going in. I just wanted to be part of that."
