Livramento Ruled Out of World Cup
Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento has been ruled out of England's World Cup campaign due to a calf injury. Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been called up as his replacement.
Livramento, 23, suffered the injury during a training session on Sunday ahead of England's World Cup opener against Croatia scheduled for Wednesday night at 21:00 BST.
His participation in the tournament had already been uncertain after missing the final five weeks of the season with a thigh injury.
Chalobah to Join Squad Post-Opener
Chalobah, who has earned one England cap, will join the squad only after the match against Croatia. While the rest of the England team traveled to Dallas, Chalobah is en route to the camp in Kansas City.
According to tournament regulations, outfield players who suffer serious injury or illness can be replaced in the World Cup squad up to 24 hours before their team's first match begins.
Livramento's International Career
Livramento made his international debut under Gareth Southgate in November 2024 and has since earned six caps. During Thomas Tuchel's tenure as England manager, he has featured five times, starting twice.
He appeared as a substitute at half-time in England's 1-0 warm-up victory over New Zealand but remained on the bench in the match against Costa Rica.
Right-Back Options and Fitness Concerns
Reece James remains Tuchel's first-choice right-back, although there are concerns about his fitness following another injury-affected season. The 26-year-old missed nine games for Chelsea towards the end of the season due to a hamstring injury.
Other right-back options already in the England squad include Djed Spence and Ezri Konsa.
Spence, who is versatile and can play on both flanks, has featured six times under Tuchel. Konsa, primarily a centre-back, has made 11 appearances, including nine starts.
Chalobah's Recent England Involvement
Chalobah has not played for England since June 2025, when he completed the full 90 minutes in a friendly against Senegal. However, he has been named on the bench for several World Cup qualifiers under Tuchel.
Like Konsa, the 26-year-old's preferred position is centre-back.
