Queiroz Takes Over as Ghana Head Coach

Carlos Queiroz has been appointed as the head coach of Ghana's national football team ahead of the 2026 World Cup, marking his fifth appearance managing at the tournament.

Queiroz's Coaching Background

Queiroz served as assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United during two periods: from 2002 to 2003 and from 2004 to 2008, interrupted by a spell as head coach of Real Madrid. His most recent role was as head coach of Oman, a position he left last month after the team did not qualify for the World Cup.

"I accept this mission with the same passion and commitment that have guided me throughout my career," Queiroz said.

"Ghana is a nation of talent, pride, and footballing soul. I arrive with respect for its history and belief in its future."

Born in Mozambique, Queiroz has extensive World Cup experience, having led Portugal to the last 16 in 2010 and coached Iran in the last three editions of the tournament. His coaching career also includes positions with Egypt, Japan, Colombia, South Africa, and an earlier tenure with Portugal in the early 1990s.
