Brentford Near Agreement to Sign Jaidon Anthony
Brentford are close to securing the signing of Burnley forward Jaidon Anthony for an initial fee of £15 million, which could rise to £17 million with add-ons. The 26-year-old is expected to sign a four-year contract with an option for an additional year. His medical examination is provisionally scheduled for Monday.
Anthony has scored 17 goals and provided 11 assists in 81 appearances for Burnley. Last season, he contributed nine goals and four assists across 38 appearances in all competitions. Despite his efforts, Burnley were relegated from the Premier League.
Player Background and Appeal
Anthony, originally from London, began his football career in Arsenal's academy. Brentford's manager, Keith Andrews, views Anthony as a player well-suited to the team's style of play. The move to Brentford is appealing to Anthony, given his London roots.
Brentford have recently signed defender Jannik Schuster from RB Salzburg in a deal reportedly worth up to £16 million including add-ons.
Career Progression
Anthony left Arsenal in 2016 without making a senior appearance. He then established himself at Bournemouth following loan spells at Weymouth and Leeds United. In 2024, he joined Burnley on loan from Bournemouth. The transfer was made permanent last summer after Burnley's promotion to the Premier League, triggering an £8 million obligation-to-buy clause.
Burnley were relegated after one season in the top flight and are set to face West Ham in their opening Championship game on 16 August.
Brentford's Upcoming Season
Brentford narrowly missed out on European qualification last season, finishing ninth on goal difference. Their opening Premier League fixture will be against Tottenham.
