Arsenal Head Coach Comments
Arsenal’s head coach Renée Slegers highlighted the critical role of supporters in their recent victory over Corinthians. She stated:
But the fans had to be resilient as well and they were with us. They were just as mentally strong as the players on the pitch and I think they fuelled the players. I’m so happy that we won the game and could give them the goal and the win and then celebrate in the rain afterwards where everyone was staying and we had that special moment with the fans again.
More than 40,000 spectators are anticipated at the Emirates Stadium for today’s match. Slegers added:
It’s so special and it’s so important for us, so let’s bring all that energy again on Sunday together.
Manchester City Head Coach Insights
Since joining Manchester City in the summer, head coach Andrée Jeglertz has made a significant impact. He has been nominated for the Manager of the Month award for January, following wins in October, November, and December. Prior to today’s game, Jeglertz commented:
Of course, I didn’t expect that we should be in this situation after six or seven months. But you go in, and in every game that I have played, or that we have played since I started coaching, we try to win and have a strong belief that we can and we have been successful in that and hopefully it continues.
Player Highlights
Chloe Kelly will be starting on the bench against her former club. The England winger previously came off the bench to score an equaliser in the reverse fixture in October; however, Manchester City secured victory with a late goal from Iman Beney.

Match Context and Background
Welcome to the minute-by-minute coverage of the Women’s Super League match between Arsenal and Manchester City. This fixture is the most frequently contested in the league’s history, with both teams having won 11 of the 24 encounters to date.
Arsenal currently occupy fourth place in the league standings and will be confident following their recent 3-2 victory over Corinthians in the inaugural Women’s Champions Cup last week. Despite being world champions, they trail league leaders Manchester City by 13 points but remain unbeaten at home this season. Their sole WSL defeat this season was against Manchester City in the earlier fixture.

Manchester City also enter this match in strong form after a commanding 5-1 win over reigning champions Chelsea last week. Vivianne Miedema and Kerolin delivered standout performances in a game that ended Chelsea’s six-year dominance. Manchester City aims to set a new record with a win today, which would equal the longest winning streak in WSL history at 14 consecutive victories.
The match kicks off at 12pm. Viewers are invited to share their thoughts via email.
