Background and Injury Update

Lewis Crocker secured the IBF world welterweight title at Belfast's Windsor Park in September 2025. His manager, Jamie Conlan, has reported that Crocker's recent hand injury is "nothing too serious" and anticipates the Belfast boxer’s first title defense against Liam Paro to occur in May.

Although no official date or venue has been confirmed by Paro's promoter, No Limit, early April was initially suggested as the preferred timing for the fight to be held in Australia.

However, Conlan's team submitted a medical notice to both Paro's team and the IBF, requesting additional time for Crocker to recover from the hand injury. Consequently, May in Townsville, Queensland, is now the likely timeframe and location for the bout.

"He (Crocker) has a small niggle on his metacarpal, nothing too serious but it's strained and that put him back about four weeks," Conlan confirmed to NI.
"We just made sure we gave it (medical notice to IBF) in enough time and to give No Limit enough time to get a date that suits everybody.
"We have a tentative date we are working towards but until it's official, we won't really know."

Title Win and Fight Negotiations

Crocker won the IBF welterweight title with a split decision victory over Paddy Donovan at Windsor Park in Belfast in September 2025. His team initially aimed to stage the mandatory title defense against Liam Paro in Belfast.

However, negotiations between Crocker's team and Paro's promoter did not reach an agreement. The situation was resolved through a purse bid, where No Limit outbid Crocker's promoter, Matchroom, by $27,000 (£20,000).

Venue and Fight Outlook

The 25,500-capacity Queensland Country Bank Stadium is reportedly a leading candidate to host the fight. Despite Crocker traveling to his opponent's home territory, Conlan describes the situation as "a really exciting time" for the champion.

"It will be back-to-back headliners outdoors. He won it (title) at Windsor Park and now to do it in Australia, in his opponent's back yard against the hardest fighter you'll be in the ring with creates a great legacy and that's what Lewis Crocker is out to do.
"He's become world champion and now it's about building that legacy, so he'll go out and beat Liam Paro in great fashion, then come back here (Belfast) for a massive fight at the end of summer."
