Yorkshire capitalized on winning the toss as Glamorgan struggled to 99-4 in difficult south Wales conditions during the hosts' first match back in Division One after a 20-year absence.

Jack White (3-26) was the most effective bowler following an initial breakthrough by Ben Coad, as Glamorgan's innings collapsed from 20-0 to 28-4.

However, Colin Ingram (41 not out) and Ben Kellaway (35 not out) responded resiliently, compiling a 71-run partnership in some late evening sunshine.

Yorkshire captain Jonny Bairstow, who had taken two catches as wicket-keeper, was forced to leave the field near the end due to a hand injury sustained while awkwardly stopping a delivery from Logan van Beek.

Team News and Conditions

Before the match, Yorkshire confirmed that Joe Root will participate in three Championship matches and fellow England batter Harry Brook will play two games as part of their preparation for the upcoming Test summer.

Glamorgan introduced debutants ex-Somerset batter Sean Dickson and New South Wales paceman Ryan Hadley. Yorkshire's new additions included Western Australia batter Sam Whiteman, who was born in Doncaster, and Dutch all-rounder Logan van Beek. However, Australian paceman Jhye Richardson was not utilized early in the match.

Intermittent rain and a chilly wind delayed the start of play until 16:15 BST, with conditions described as grey, windy, and inhospitable.

Early Batting and Bowling Exchanges

Asa Tribe and Eddie Byrom opened the batting for Glamorgan, forming a rare pair of bespectacled batters. Byrom began positively, hitting his first ball back into the square-leg boundary.

Ben Coad troubled Byrom, beating him multiple times before inducing an edge to slip, where Finlay Bean took a well-held catch despite the cold conditions.

In the following over, England prospect Asa Tribe edged Jack White to Jonny Bairstow for 11 runs. Bairstow then caught Sean Dickson off White without scoring in front of slip.

The collapse continued as new Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson flicked White to leg-slip, where Dom Bess secured a catch above his head.

Partnership Stabilizes Glamorgan Innings

Despite early tentative shots, Colin Ingram and England Lions all-rounder Ben Kellaway steadied the innings against the change bowlers. Ingram notably struck Logan van Beek over point for Glamorgan's first six of the season.

The half-century partnership marked a recovery phase for Glamorgan before Bairstow's injury-induced departure, after which Finlay Bean assumed wicket-keeping duties.

Glamorgan managed to survive a second spell from White and a brief over of spin from Dom Bess to close the day with some batting resources remaining. Nonetheless, Yorkshire will be satisfied with their bowling and fielding efforts in challenging conditions.
