Young Talent Ollie Peake Set for Australia Debut

At 19 years old, Ollie Peake stands on the verge of becoming Australia’s youngest men’s ODI specialist batter after being named in the squad for the upcoming Pakistan tour. Alongside him, all-rounder Liam Scott has also received his first call-up to Australia’s white-ball teams, while seasoned T20 all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been omitted.

Australia is scheduled to play three one-day internationals against Pakistan in Rawalpindi and Lahore starting 30 May. Following this, the team will travel to Bangladesh in June for a series comprising three ODIs in Dhaka and three T20 matches in Chattogram.

Squad Changes and Leadership Adjustments

Notably, ODI captain Pat Cummins and fellow fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will be rested for these tours after their participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In Cummins’s absence, Twenty20 captain Mitchell Marsh will take on the role of ODI captain.

Veteran players Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis, both members of the Australia squad that did not progress beyond the group stage at the T20 World Cup earlier this year, have been excluded from the squads.

Peake’s Senior Level Introduction

Ollie Peake, who has previously captained Australia Under-19s, will make his senior international debut during the Pakistan leg of the tour. However, he will not participate in the Bangladesh matches, where several senior players returning from the IPL, including Travis Head, Cooper Connolly, and Ben Dwarshuis, will be available.

Alongside Peake, 25-year-old Liam Scott has been named in the ODI squads. Additionally, 22-year-old left-arm spinning all-rounder Joel Davies has been selected for the T20 squad for the first time.

Selection Chair Comments

“It’s always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team,” national selection chair George Bailey said. “The blend of experienced players coupled with new or returning players will provide a nice mix for these subcontinent tours.”
