Scotland Chase Down 160 to Beat Namibia in T20 Series Opener
George Munsey provided Scotland with a rapid start in their successful chase against Namibia in the first T20 match of the series.
Namibia 159-7 (20 overs): Erasmus 54 (39); Watt 2-24, J. Davidson 2-28
Scotland 160-3 (18.5 overs): Munsey 44 (31), McMullen 44* (39); Heingo 2-16
Scotland began their T20 series against Namibia with a convincing victory, reaching the target of 160 runs with seven balls remaining in Windhoek.
Namibia, having won the toss and elected to bat first, experienced early setbacks, falling to 94-6. Seamer Jasper Davidson and left-arm spinner Mark Watt both claimed two wickets each while maintaining economical bowling figures.
Despite the collapse, Namibia managed to post a competitive total of 159-7. Captain Gerhard Erasmus contributed a solid 54 runs from 39 balls, while Jan Balt provided a powerful late cameo, remaining unbeaten on 19.
Louren Steenkamp, who had scored 67 in the ODI match between these teams on Sunday, was dismissed for 27. His wicket was the first international dismissal for debutant Zainullah Ihsan.
Scotland’s Response
In reply, Scotland’s openers George Munsey (44) and Finlay McCreath (16) started briskly during the powerplay overs, maintaining control throughout the innings.
Following his excellent century on Sunday, Brandon McMullen played a crucial unbeaten innings of 44 runs, steering Scotland to victory. He was well supported by captain Richie Berrington, who scored 34 runs in his 350th appearance for Scotland.
Berrington was dismissed by a remarkable one-handed catch at square-leg boundary by Ruben Trumpelmann. The winning runs were then struck by wicket-keeper Matthew Cross, who hit two runs into the off-side to secure the win.
Two more matches are scheduled in the series, set to take place on Friday and Saturday, both starting at 13:00 BST.
