England struggle as India assert control on day two

In the one-off Test at Lord's, England face a challenging situation after India took command on the second day of the match.

India posted 285 in their first innings, highlighted by Smriti Mandhana's 83, with Sophie Ecclestone taking 3-68 for England. England resumed their reply at 21-1 but were dismissed for 170, with Amy Jones top-scoring at 52 and Kranti Gaud achieving a historic 5-37.

India then reached 154-1 in their second innings, with Mandhana unbeaten on 69 and Shafali Verma contributing 33 before falling to Ecclestone. The tourists now hold a substantial lead of 269 runs, putting England under significant pressure.

Gaud becomes first woman on Lord's Test honours board

Kranti Gaud made history by becoming the first woman to be named on the Lord's Test honours board after her impressive bowling performance. Having dismissed Tammy Beaumont on the previous evening, Gaud continued to dismantle England's top order.

She claimed the wickets of Maia Bouchier (23), Alice Capsey (9), and captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was lbw for 44. Sciver-Brunt and Jones shared an 84-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but following Jones' dismissal, England collapsed, losing six wickets for 39 runs.

With favorable weather forecast for the next two days, India are well-positioned to maintain pressure and potentially force a victory.

Gaud exposes England's batting frailties

Despite some turn for England's spinners on day one, the pitch became easier to bat on after a warm day in London, raising questions about Sciver-Brunt's decision to bowl first.

Nonetheless, Gaud, aged 22, and the Indian bowling attack executed a disciplined strategy of maintaining a consistent line and length, which England's batters struggled to counter.

Whether due to fatigue following the T20 World Cup or unfamiliarity with prolonged batting innings, England's batting was vulnerable. Only Capsey appeared to face a genuinely challenging delivery that nipped between bat and pad.

Bouchier was dismissed after playing outside the off stump, Heather Knight missed a straight delivery from Sayali Satghare, and Jones was caught off spinner Sneh Rana due to a lapse in concentration.

When Sciver-Brunt was trapped lbw, England's lower order faced a daunting task. Lauren Bell was brilliantly caught at slip off Shafali Verma's rebound catch, completing Gaud's five-wicket haul.

Gaud celebrated by raising the ball to the applauding Lord's pavilion as she led India off the field, having put her team in a commanding position.
