England Captain Sciver-Brunt Out of New Zealand ODI Series
Nat Sciver-Brunt, who was appointed permanent England captain in April 2025, has been ruled out of England's upcoming one-day international series against New Zealand due to a calf injury. This development comes just over a month before England hosts the T20 World Cup.
The 33-year-old sustained a minor tear to her left calf while representing The Blaze in a match against Warwickshire on 29 April.
Sciver-Brunt's injury raises concerns as England prepare to begin their T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on 12 June at Edgbaston. However, sources have informed that her withdrawal from the ODI series is a precautionary measure and she is expected to be fully fit in time for the tournament.
Following scans conducted on Saturday that revealed the injury, Sciver-Brunt will undergo further assessment to determine the extent of the damage.
Prior to the World Cup, England are scheduled to play six T20 matches against New Zealand and India.
In Sciver-Brunt's absence, vice-captain Charlie Dean will assume leadership of the side for the three-match ODI series. The series begins in Durham on Sunday, 10 May, with subsequent matches in Northampton on 13 May and Cardiff on 16 May.
Additionally, Hampshire and Southern Brave batter Maia Bouchier, aged 27, has been called up as cover for the series.
