Tom Norton, aged 18 and playing only his fourth Championship cricket match, delivered an impressive performance alongside Mason Crane as Glamorgan took control against Surrey.

Glamorgan posted a total of 358 runs in 114.1 overs, with Mason Crane scoring 106, Chris Cooke 101, and Colin Ingram unbeaten on 80. Surrey's Gus Atkinson took 4 wickets for 61 runs.

In response, Surrey were bowled out for 105 runs in 34.4 overs, with Norton claiming 5 wickets for 50 runs. Following on, Surrey reached 82 for 2, with Norton contributing 82 runs and Rory Burns remaining not out on 43.

Mason Crane achieved his maiden Championship century, and the young Tom Norton secured his first five-wicket haul, enabling Glamorgan to establish a first-innings lead of 258 runs and enforce the follow-on.

Surrey began their second innings positively but slipped to 82 for 2, still trailing by 171 runs.

Crane, in his twelfth season of first-class cricket, continued Glamorgan's batting recovery with a patient 106 runs. He shared a 106-run partnership with Colin Ingram, who scored 80 runs.

The home side's total of 358 was a remarkable recovery from 79 for 6, despite England paceman Gus Atkinson's 4 wickets for 61 runs, demonstrating his readiness for a potential Test recall.

Tom Norton (5-50) dismantled Surrey's prominent top order, including four international players, during his opening spell, leading to Surrey's first innings collapse at 105 all out.

Day Two Batting and Bowling Highlights

Resuming on 244 for 6, Glamorgan lost centurion Chris Cooke early on day two when Atkinson bowled him with the fourth ball of the day.

This dismissal brought Colin Ingram back to the crease to continue the recovery after retiring hurt on 23 due to a finger injury sustained from Atkinson the previous afternoon.

Ingram and Crane successfully negotiated the challenging new ball period and steadily advanced through the first session. Crane survived a confident lbw appeal from Sean Abbott on 77 runs.

Having been stumped for 99 earlier in the season against Leicestershire, Crane cautiously progressed through the nineties before driving Dan Lawrence to third man for two runs in the next over, earning generous applause.

Twelve runs off an over from Jordan Clark helped Glamorgan secure their third batting point. However, Crane was dismissed by Lawrence just before lunch.

Surrey managed to claim two bowling points but welcomed back Sam Curran from injury, who bowled a tidy four-over spell.

Glamorgan's innings concluded shortly after the interval when Norton was dismissed lbw by Rahul Chahar. Atkinson, seeking an England recall at Trent Bridge, bowled Ingram, who had struck 10 fours and a six.

Surrey's Struggles and Norton's Impact

Surrey's second innings began poorly with Rory Burns being run out by a direct hit from Ben Kellaway, despite appearing able to complete the run.

Tom Norton then dominated, dismissing Sam Curran, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, and Dom Sibley within five overs. He found the edge three times after bowling Curran.

As Ryan Patel and Adam Thomas seemed set to bat through the session, Patel was caught on 24 by Timm van der Gugten after a lobbed return catch.

Norton celebrated his five-wicket haul by inducing Thomas to top-edge a pull shot to complete the dismissal. Ryan Hadley and Mason Crane (2 wickets for 9 runs) finished the innings, with Jordan Clark left unbeaten on 20 after some aggressive hitting.

With Surrey's innings completed inside 35 overs, Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson opted for a lengthy evening session of 30 overs.

Burns (43 not out) and Sibley started their second innings with a 66-run partnership, but Sibley was caught at slip by Sean Dickson off Ben Kellaway after surviving a difficult chance earlier.

Norton returned to dismiss night-watchman Sean Abbott and nearly caught second night-watchman Rahul Chahar behind, but a no-ball was called.

Glamorgan concluded a dominant day, although Surrey still possess sufficient batting talent to challenge in the match.
