Jim's Sunday Round-Up

James Rew once again demonstrated resilience for Somerset, enhancing his reputation and keeping his team in contention for a final day victory on the south coast. Following his first innings score of 86, the young batsman remained unbeaten on 58 at the close of an intriguing day in Southampton. Earlier, Lewis Gregory delivered an energetic bowling performance, claiming five wickets, while Nick Gubbins top scored with 83 in Hampshire's second innings total of 336.

Sonny Baker of Hampshire then made a significant impact, dismissing the top three Somerset batsmen—Archie Vaughan, Tom Lammonby, and Joshua Thomas. However, it should be noted that Vaughan and Lammonby were dismissed due to careless shots on the pull. Subsequently, Rew and Tom Abell stabilized the innings, leaving Somerset requiring 148 runs to secure victory.

At Edgbaston, the day was marked by a dramatic exchange of wickets, with seventeen falling in total. Both teams appeared to be in precarious positions at different points during the day. Essex, however, will approach the final day with confidence, as Dean Elgar and nightwatchman Sam Cook guided the team to 11 without loss at stumps, chasing a target of 206.

Warwickshire were dismissed for 220 runs within 63 overs. Visiting captain Sam Cook took five wickets, including the important dismissal of Beau Webster. Webster's innings of 91 runs, featuring sixteen boundaries, contributed to a challenging, though not overwhelming, target for Essex.

In Division Two, centuries from Northamptonshire's James Sales and Nathan McSweeney made Middlesex's task at Wantage Road demanding as the home side posted 409 in their first innings. Early in Middlesex's second innings, Josh De Caires was dismissed LBW by Luke Proctor. Nevertheless, Sam Robson and Max Holden batted steadily to reach 109 for 1, holding a lead of 41 runs at stumps.
