Rothesay County Championship, Division One, Sophie Gardens, Cardiff (day one)
Glamorgan posted 334-7 in 96 overs against Leicestershire, with Kiran Carlson scoring 95 and Sean Dickson contributing 90. Holland took 2-19 and Hull 2-70 for Leicestershire. Both teams earned 2 points each.
Glamorgan gained a slight edge in the contest between the two promoted sides by reaching a total of 334-7. Kiran Carlson led the innings with 95 runs, while new signing Sean Dickson made 90, marking his first significant contribution for the county since joining from Somerset.
The two captains set the tone for their teams as Carlson led a revival after Leicestershire captain Ian Holland took two early wickets. Holland's medium pace bowling was economical, conceding just seven runs in his first 12 overs while exploiting early movement.
Josh Hull, a paceman with one England cap, also claimed two wickets, reducing Glamorgan to 91-4 at lunch. However, the Welsh side recovered to post a respectable total on a pitch that showed early signs of turn.
Leicestershire included former Yorkshire batter Jonny Tattersall and ex-Somerset seamer Josh Davey, both of whom had previously played on one-match loans. Glamorgan retained the same lineup that played at Trent Bridge, with all-rounder Ben Kellaway still sidelined due to a hip injury.
Despite choosing to bat under sunny conditions, Glamorgan initially struggled against Holland, who found considerable movement. Eddie Byrom was dismissed for 1, edging behind in the second over, and Zain Ul Hassan was caught behind for 7 while attempting to leave the ball. Holland's first eight overs yielded two wickets for just seven runs.
Glamorgan appeared to be stabilizing before Hull struck twice, bowling Asa Tribe for 24 with a well-directed delivery and then dismissing Colin Ingram for 26 just before lunch. Ingram had managed a four and a boundary before edging a ball from off-stump onto his stumps.
While Leicestershire dominated the opening session, Glamorgan responded strongly in the afternoon. Carlson and Dickson compiled a fluent partnership of 126 runs. Carlson's run-out was the only blemish in an otherwise solid innings, while Dickson gained momentum after a tentative start to the season.
Carlson displayed his usual positive intent and timing, hitting 13 boundaries. Although the boundary that took him to 50 was an inside edge, he was on course for a well-deserved century. However, he was dismissed by Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel, flicking the ball to Jake Weatherald at short backward square leg, who executed a sharp return to run him out.
Patel, who was extracting turn and bounce from the pitch, then dismissed Chris Cooke caught behind for 12, leaving Glamorgan at 237-6 and the innings in a precarious position.
Dickson continued to build his innings with occasional aggressive strokes, hitting 12 fours. Nevertheless, Ben Green caught him behind after a valuable knock that benefited both himself and the team.
The lower order contributed a late revival in the evening sunshine. Mason Crane displayed some well-timed shots to reach 48 not out, while Timm van der Gugten provided a solid defensive effort, remaining unbeaten on 22.
