Capsey & Knight Star as England Seal Series Win
India 180-5 (20 overs): Harmanpreet 56 (40); Bell 2-36
England 184-4 (18.3 overs): Capsey 82 (43), Knight 70* (42)
Alice Capsey delivered a commanding performance, leaving England with a significant selection decision ahead of the T20 World Cup, while Heather Knight found crucial form as England secured a six-wicket victory over India. This win clinched the series 2-1 in England's favor.
With captain Nat Sciver-Brunt set to return from injury, Capsey was initially viewed as the most vulnerable member of England's XI for the tournament opener next week. However, she dominated India's bowling attack, scoring 82 runs from 43 balls during the chase of 181.
England began the innings at 14-2, with Sophia Dunkley dismissed for 16 and Danni Wyatt-Hodge for five. Their positions now face intense scrutiny due to Capsey's performance, which included nine fours and three sixes, contributing to a remarkable 137-run partnership with Knight.
Veteran former captain Heather Knight, who had struggled with form throughout the summer and faced doubts about her place in the side, appeared near her best by scoring an unbeaten 70 from 42 balls.
Although Capsey was dismissed with six runs still required, England comfortably completed their second-highest T20 chase—and the highest on home soil—with nine balls to spare.
This victory provides England with a significant boost ahead of their home World Cup campaign, positioning them as strong contenders to win a major trophy for the first time since 2017.
England will participate in warm-up matches against India and Australia next week before opening the tournament against Sri Lanka on 12 June.
Capsey & Knight Power England to Statement Win
Coach Charlotte Edwards will be pleased with the momentum England have built and the quality of their cricket. However, she now faces a critical selection decision since her appointment as coach prior to last summer.
Capsey previously scored a match-winning 74 not out against New Zealand last month. Despite this, when Wyatt-Hodge was available for Saturday's match in Bristol, Capsey was moved down from opener to number four, indicating that Dunkley and Wyatt-Hodge remained the preferred opening pair.
Questions remain about how long this arrangement can continue.
Dunkley, who has opened in all of England's T20 matches under Edwards, reached double figures for the fifth consecutive time before being caught at deep mid-wicket. Her highest score this summer is 26.
Wyatt-Hodge has scored 29 and five since returning after the birth of her first child but holds the advantage of experience with 179 internationals.
While Knight executed a series of sweeps and reverse shots, Capsey, appearing fitter and more composed in 2026, targeted the straight boundaries with power. Early in the innings, she played a magnificent carving drive over extra cover for six. In the 15th over, she attacked spinner Sree Charani with a four and two powerful sixes.
Knight reached her fifty in 31 deliveries, marking the quickest she has achieved this milestone for England in any format. She was markedly different from the batter who began the summer with five innings at less than a run per ball.
The next challenge for England is to replicate this performance under pressure on the world stage, an area where they have struggled in recent years.
England Also Hold Firm in the Field
Bowling is widely regarded as England's strength heading into the World Cup, although they have conceded 180 or more runs in two of the three matches played in this series.
In this match, Linsey Smith, recently ranked number one in T20 bowling, conceded 40 runs from her four overs during India's innings of 180-5. New-ball partner Lauren Bell was also uncharacteristically erratic early on, resulting in 57 runs being scored during the powerplay, despite the early dismissals of Shefali Verma and Harmanpreet Kaur for 11 and eight runs respectively.
England's fielding was exemplary, reflecting their improvement under Edwards. Sophie Ecclestone executed a direct hit from mid-off to run out Yastika Bhatia, who had made an enterprising 32. Although Ecclestone missed a close-range chance on the final ball of the innings, there were several other notable saves and dives.
Bell recovered to dismiss Jemimah Rodrigues with a well-executed slower ball for 29. Her versatility—being effective with the new ball and astute at the death—will be vital during the World Cup.
Despite a 67-run partnership between Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma from 48 balls, England fought back strongly as they had done in the second T20 match in Bristol on Saturday.
India might have pushed their total beyond 190, but given Capsey and Knight's batting display, even that might not have been sufficient.
