Young Bowler Achieves Six Wickets in Six Balls

Rohan, a nine-year-old cricketer, astonished his teammates and family by bowling six wickets in six consecutive balls during a match on Sunday.

Playing for the under-nines team at Great Shelford Cricket Club near Cambridge, Rohan achieved a double hat-trick in a game against Histon.

"It was very loud," Rohan said, describing the cheers and the moment when everyone ran onto the pitch following his exceptional bowling performance.

He was awarded the match ball and named player of the match as his team secured a 26-run victory.

Rohan dismissed six batsmen in his wicket haul, finishing with impressive bowling figures of 6 for 0.

"I play for my school team and Great Shelford. I joined when I was around seven," Rohan told the BBC.

Reflecting on his accomplishment, he added,

"It rarely ever happens."

Rohan's father, Narain, 54, expressed pride in his son's achievement, especially as it occurred on Father's Day.

"To get one wicket is a great achievement for someone so young, but wicket after wicket I was so proud," Narain said.

"Just him playing at the local cricket team was a great achievement.

"I don't think I realised how rare of an achievement it was."

Vishal Gupta, one of the team's coaches and the match umpire, described having the "best seat in the house" to witness Rohan's feat.

"I took my umpire hat off and threw him up in the air with his team," Gupta said. "Everyone was clapping about it.

"I don't think I will ever see it again, it was amazing."

Lucas Green, head coach of the under-nines, noted the joy shared by all present.

"When the wickets fell for the sixth ball everyone ran on to the pitch," he said.

"The other team were so happy for him... and him and his team-mates enjoyed the moment."

Extremely Rare Achievement

Cricket author and BBC broadcaster Andrew Radd commented on the rarity of Rohan's accomplishment.

"It goes without saying that Rohan's terrific achievement is extremely rare.

"Facts and figures for cricket below professional level can be rather sketchy - and according to Guinness World Records the feat of six wickets in six balls wasn't noted until a couple of instances in Australia earlier this century.

"But the Association of Cricket Statisticians has a record of 'six in six' by GH Sirett - a radio technician in Rugby - for Rowland United against the Royal Warwickshire Regimental Association back in 1951.

"In first-class (professional) cricket the best anyone has managed to date is five wickets in five deliveries by Brett Randell in New Zealand in March this year."
