Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Rapid Half Century Powers Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi celebrated his 15th birthday with a remarkable performance, scoring a 15-ball half-century in an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

Sooryavanshi, who previously impressed with a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans last season, reached his first fifty of the current IPL campaign in just 15 balls. This marks the third time he has scored 50 or more runs in his eight-match IPL career.

Opening alongside fellow India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sooryavanshi aggressively attacked the Chennai bowling attack during the powerplay, helping Rajasthan Royals reach 74 runs without loss.

He was eventually dismissed for 52 runs off 17 balls, hitting five sixes and four fours, after sharing a rapid 75-run partnership with Jaiswal. Rajasthan Royals secured victory in 12.1 overs while chasing a target of 128 runs.

“I think of defending but the plan was to decide the game in the powerplay as we’d restricted them to a low score,” Sooryavanshi said.
“If the bowlers had bowled well in the powerplay then the game might have turned their way but we went all out in the powerplay.“

The Under-19 World Cup winner credited Rajasthan Royals coach Kumar Sangakkara and the coaching staff for encouraging his aggressive style of play.

“They told me to read the situation well and back my game,” he added.

Bowling Performance Sets Up the Chase

Rajasthan Royals’ successful chase was built on a strong bowling performance that restricted Chennai Super Kings to 127 runs in 19.4 overs. The Royals’ bowlers reduced Chennai to 41 for 4 at the end of the powerplay, placing the visitors under significant pressure.

South African pace bowler Nandre Burger led the bowling attack with figures of 2 wickets for 26 runs and was named player of the match. Jofra Archer and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with two wickets each.

Upcoming Fixtures

Rajasthan Royals will next face Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Saturday, while Chennai Super Kings are scheduled to host Punjab Kings on Friday.
