Clayton Dominates Humphries in Nottingham Final

Jonny Clayton secured a commanding eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table after six weeks by defeating Luke Humphries 6-1 in the final. This victory marked Clayton's second Premier League night win of the season.

Despite battling gout in his ankle throughout the night at Nottingham's Motorpoint Arena, Clayton's performance remained exceptional. Although his mobility was affected, his throwing accuracy was unaffected, enabling him to maintain a high standard of play.

The 2021 Premier League champion averaged over 99 points and achieved a 67% success rate on his doubles. This performance made him the first player to claim two league nights this season, following five different winners in the initial five weeks.

Clayton's best form was reserved for the final, after steady but less spectacular wins against Michael van Gerwen and Stephen Bunting, both with averages just above 95 and 6-3 scorelines.

Earlier, Luke Humphries had ended Luke Littler's attempt at consecutive victories by winning a thrilling 6-5 semi-final match. However, Humphries was unable to secure his first league win of the season as he was decisively beaten in the final.

Premier League Darts Format and Points System

The Premier League Darts competition consists of 16 weeks in the league stage, with quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final held each night.

Each of the eight players faces the other seven in the quarter-finals during weeks one to seven and nine to fifteen. Weeks eight and sixteen feature fixtures determined off the table. This scheduling ensures that the fourth and fifth-placed players meet in Sheffield on the final league-stage night, potentially deciding play-off positions.

Players earn two points for each quarter-final win, an additional point for a semi-final victory, and five points for winning the night.

The top four players after the group stage advance to the play-off night at London's O2 Arena on 23 May. The semi-finals are best-of-19-leg matches, with first facing fourth and second playing third. The final is contested over a best-of-21 legs format.

If players are tied on points after the 16 weeks, rankings are determined by the number of nights won, followed by matches won.
