Hunter Bell Defeated in Melbourne 1500m
Great Britain's Georgia Hunter Bell was defeated in the 1500m race at the Maurie Plant Meet in Melbourne, marking her first competition since winning the women's world indoor championship.
The 32-year-old athlete had arrived in Australia less than a week after securing her inaugural global indoor title in Poland. Despite her recent success, Hunter Bell was unable to execute her characteristic finishing sprint as Australian competitor Claudia Hollingsworth surged ahead 200 meters from the finish line.
Hollingsworth, aged 20, recorded a winning time of four minutes 1.30 seconds, finishing 0.22 seconds ahead of Hunter Bell. This performance earned Hollingsworth the silver medal in the 800m at the 2024 World Under-20 Athletics Championships and set a record time for the Maurie Plant Meet.
"It was amazing being in a race with this level of girls and beating Georgia," said Hollingsworth.
