Hunter Bell Secures First Global 1500m Title

Great Britain's Georgia Hunter Bell captured her first global title by winning the 1500m gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships held in Poland.

Returning to the championships where she made her British debut two years prior, Olympic bronze medallist Hunter Bell overtook Ethiopia's Birke Haylom and surged ahead of her competitors in the final lap, finishing with a time of three minutes 58.53 seconds.

This victory marked the 32-year-old's fifth major international medal and her fourth on the global stage, underscoring her growing prominence in the sport. Notably, Hunter Bell resumed her athletics career in 2022 after a five-year hiatus.

Her fourth-place finish at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow provided her with the confidence that she could contend with the world's elite athletes. This performance also motivated her to take a summer sabbatical from her full-time employment to pursue her Olympic aspirations.

As the British team captain in Torun, Hunter Bell entered the championships undefeated in both of her 1500m races this season, positioning herself as a strong contender for her first global title.

During the race, she exercised patience while Haylom established a considerable lead early on. Hunter Bell gradually closed the gap before launching a decisive attack at the bell lap to secure the gold medal.

Hunter Bell's triumph occurred shortly before Molly Caudery secured a women's pole vault medal, contributing to Great Britain's medal tally.

This gold was Great Britain's second medal at the Torun championships, following Josh Kerr's victory in the 3,000m event on Saturday.
