Peaty Triumphs in 50m Breaststroke at Aquatics GB Championships
Adam Peaty, a three-time Olympic champion, continued his impressive performance by winning the 50m breaststroke at the Aquatics GB Swimming Championships held in London. The 31-year-old swimmer pulled ahead of his competitors in the second 25 meters, securing victory with a time of 26.64 seconds. This win adds to his earlier success in the 100m breaststroke event on Tuesday.
Teenager Filip Nowacki finished in second place with a time of 27.10 seconds, while Archie Goodburn and Max Morgan tied for third place, both recording 27.22 seconds.
By finishing in the top two positions, Peaty and 18-year-old Nowacki earned selection for the Great Britain team to compete at the European Aquatics Championships scheduled to take place in Paris in August.
"I've given everything on this preparation and the most exciting thing is the future now," said Peaty.
"The next few months, we'll hopefully get this down because I know the World Championships is much more competitive.
"I want to be on top of that [Olympic] podium in two years' time."
Looking Ahead to World Championships and LA 2028
The World Aquatics Championships are set to take place in China this December. However, Peaty’s focus extends beyond that event, as he aims for the long-term goal of competing at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Peaty confirmed a year ago his intention to pursue a place at the next Olympic Games, shortly after the announcement that the 50m breaststroke would be included in the Olympic schedule. This addition provides him with an additional opportunity to win individual gold medals, complementing his previous Olympic victories in the 100m breaststroke in 2016 and 2021.
Other Notable Performances at the Championships
In other events, double Olympic champion Duncan Scott, aged 28, successfully defended his title in the 200m butterfly, fending off a strong challenge from Edward Mildred.
Lauren Cox, who secured gold in the 100m backstroke at the 2025 European Championships, won the same event in London, finishing ahead of Blythe Kinsman.
Three-time Paralympic champion Alice Tai finished second in the women's MC 100m backstroke, behind Bethany Firth.
Additional winners included 17-year-old Amelie Blocksidge in the 1500m freestyle, Max Litchfield in the 400m medley, and 16-year-old Amalie Smith in the 400m medley.
Throughout the week, British titles will be awarded across 36 medal events at the London meet.
